Chapter one
Autumnkit woke up in the nursery. She was excited about today. It was the day of her turning 6 moons. That means that she would become an apprentice today!! She glanced around the nursery, and saw her 3 siblings. They were Moonkit, Orangekit, and Maplekit. Autumnkit also saw Greypelt, who was the other queen in the nursery besides her mother, Mousekit, and Silverkit. They were as old as she was. She got up and padded out of the nursery.
“Hello Autumnkit!” Treetail mewed to her as she passed. Treetail was Autumnkit’s father.
“Hey Autumnkit!! Happy 6 moon birthday!!” Mousekit mewed as she raced over to meet Autumnkit. Mousekit and Autumnkit were good friends. “My brother is still sleeping.
He’s so lazy sometimes!!” Silverkit was Mousekit’s brother.
“Good morning Autumnkit, Treetail, and Mousekit!!” said Bluebird as she crossed the clearing. “Mousekit, Greypelt is looking for you. You better go over there. She might get worried sick.” Moonkit, Orangekit, and Maplekit tumbled out of the nursery, play-fighting behind Bluebird.
“Oh look, Rainstar is calling a clan meeting!” Treetail mewed as he padded over to the high rock. Rainstar sat up on top of it, and was waiting patiently as the cats gathered around her.
“Cats of OakClan, we have some things to discuss today.” Rainstar yowled over the conversation of the cats. “First, Stripedpelt has something to say.” Rainstar let Stripedpelt talk.
“Fellow clan mates, as you know, I am not as young as I once was. I am retiring, and leaving my position to Amberpelt, my apprentice.” she mewed. “I will become an elder, and I hope that Amberpelt serves you well as a medicine cat.” Stripedpelt jumped off the high rock, and joined the crowd that was beneath Rainstar once again.
“We have a warrior ceremony to do today!” Rainstar mewed. “Ivorypaw, please step forward.” Ivorypaw stepped out of the crowd, and right in front of the high rock. “I, Rainstar, leader of OakClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down upon this apprentice. He has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him to you as a warrior in his turn. Ivorypaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend this Clan, even at the cost of your life?” Rainstar mewed, staring at him.
“Of course I do.” Ivorypaw answered, his voice steady and strong.
“Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Ivorypaw, from this moment on, you shall be known as Ivoryfur, and we welcome you as a full warrior of OakClan.” Rainstar said, nodding to Ivoryfur.
“Ivoryfur, Ivoryfur.” The cats in the clearing started chanting Ivoryfur’s new name.
“I am not done yet.” Rainstar meowed. "Moonkit, Orangekit, Autumnkit, Mousekit, and Silverkit please step forward.” Autumnkit knew what was coming next. She felt ecstatic about it!
“You are all 6 moons old, and you are all ready to be apprenticed.” Rainstar started. “Moonkit, you are now Moonpaw, and your mentor is Starryfur.” Moonpaw and Starryfur touched noses. “Orangekit, you are now Orangepaw, and your mentor is Flowerpetal.” They too, touched noses. “Mousekit, you are now Mousepaw, and your mentor is Snowstorm.” They touched noses as well. “Silverkit, you are now Silverpaw, and your mentor will be Treetail. And Autumnkit, you are now Autumnpaw, and your mentor is Quickfoot.” Autumnpaw leaned up, and touched noses with her mentor. She saw the proud gleam in Quickfoot’s eyes. “That is all my fellow clanmates, and you may return to your dens.” Rainstar mewed, and she stepped down from the high-rock.
